It’s official: The Decrypthon Program has improved due to the arrival of an internet users calculation grid for the outstanding molecular assembly project of A. Carbone’s research team.
The purpose of this project called "Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy" is to investigate protein-protein interactions of 40,000 proteins whose structures are known, with particular focus on those proteins that play a role in neuromuscular diseases. It is initially a test phase which has just been launched, calculating the interactions of 336 proteins using Windows. For the second phase of the project, of greater importance, calculations will also be carried out using Linux and Macintosh operating systems.
The database of information produced will help researchers design molecules to inhibit or enhance binding of particular macromolecules, hopefully leading to better treatments for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases.
You can contribute to the success of this project by making the computational power of your computer available to researchers. Just join the World Community Grid and when you are not using your PC, it will help in the advancement of research.
